Purbeck & Dorset Themed Art
The Isle of Purbeck is not really an island, but a peninsula surrounded by sea on three sides, and marshy land on the other. It’s a stunning part of the Dorset AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and provides inspiration for artists the world over.
Much of our art is (unsurprisingly) by local artists, and we exhibit work in an impressive variety of styles - our preference is for contemporary interpretations of local landmarks such as Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and Old Harry’s Rocks.
We’ve mounted prints and original watercolours, pastels, oils and acrylics as well as ink paintings reminiscent of linocuts. There are also poster-style illustrations of some of the Jurassic Coast’s most famous spots, such as Studland Beach; and beautiful watercolours where familiar scenes such as Swanage Bay or the Swanage Steam Train are given an unexpected ‘twist’.
